WHAT ARE MEN'S JOURNEY GROUPS?
Men’s Journey Groups are small gatherings of three to six men, led by a facilitator, who meet regularly to grow together in faith and friendship. These groups focus on spiritual conversations around God’s Word, engage in burden-bearing prayer for one another, and build Gospel-centered relationships.
Each group chooses its own meeting location, day, and time. Weekly meetings are encouraged, though some groups may meet every other week. The Journey Group Oversight Team selects the curriculum each semester and works closely with group leaders to form groups with healthy diversity, so every man who wants to participate can find a good fit.
Journey Groups typically last about two years. During the second year, groups are encouraged to multiply - creating new groups that foster continued personal growth and help meet the needs of our growing church.
WHAT ARE THE GROUP MEMBERS' COMMITMENTS?
Journey Group members share three simple commitments:
- Attend meetings regularly and be fully present.
- Come prepared by completing the assigned reading or video before each meeting.
- Pray throughout the week for one another and for the needs of our church.
WHAT ARE THE GROUP LEADER'S COMMITMENTS?
Journey Group Leaders do not need to be biblical scholars. Rather, they are spiritually mature men who love the Lord and His church and are willing to serve alongside other leaders under the guidance of the Journey Group Oversight Team.
Journey Group Leaders have four key responsibilities:
- Work with the Oversight Team to form and coordinate their group’s membership.
- Participate in all required training, including initial leader training and ongoing sessions designed for encouragement and support.
- Facilitate group meetings that will foster spiritual conversation, prayer, and Gospel - centered fellowship.
- Communicate regularly with group members - whether in person, by phone, or electronically - to help every member feel valued, connected, and cared for.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN A JOURNEY GROUP?
Knowing God draws us into a lifelong journey of transformation. By the power of the Holy Spirit, God frees us from sinful patterns and shapes in us the character, desires, and love of Christ. God calls us to become like Christ, and in His grace, He also supplies the power to make that growth possible. This work of sanctification is neither self-reliant striving nor passive waiting - it is God-dependent effort. We actively pursue obedience by faith, trusting that God is at work in us through His grace in Jesus Christ.
God invites us to be attentive, willing participants in this growth, pressing forward together toward maturity in Christ.
Three Key Means God Uses for Our Growth
Spiritual Conversation
Scripture teaches that Christians grow best in community. We need fellow believers to walk alongside us, and one of the most powerful ways God shapes us is through honest, loving conversation centered on His Word and the gospel. As we study Scripture together and encourage one another with gospel truth, deep fellowship is formed.
Beyond learning truth, we are called to speak the truth in love—to encourage, restore, comfort, and gently challenge one another. In doing so, we experience a true “communion of saints,” where shared faith strengthens and sustains us.
Burden-Bearing Prayer
Prayer is the heart of our relationship with God. As God speaks to us through Scripture, we respond in prayer—bringing praise, confession, thanksgiving, and requests for ourselves and others. Both personal and shared prayer are essential, and praying Scripture together helps guide our hearts and words. When we pray together, we learn to depend on God and carry one another’s burdens in love.
Gospel Friendship
The gospel unites us not only to Christ but also to one another. Meaningful Christian friendships are a gift from God and a vital means of spiritual growth. Faithful friends walk together through joy and hardship, strengthening one another along the way. Scripture gives us a beautiful picture of this kind of friendship—deep, loyal, and enduring—one that grows stronger through trials and reflects God’s covenant love.
