Sermon Intro: But…Genesis shows that Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph did not arrive at persevering faith easily! In each case, faith grew like a plant struggling ever so slowly out of the soil of weaknesses, willfulness, and wickedness. But our covenant God, like a Master Gardener made it grow and, in time, bear the fruit of maturity. That should encourage us because we have so much in common with these men! Our faith in Christ that seems strong on some occasions may also be weak and frail at others. But our hope is in our God who has bound Himself to us in love and can be trusted to water our faith and nurture it and bring it to maturity.
