Thursday evening, the elders met to discuss, among other matters, our plan to return to normal Sunday morning and weekday events at Covenant.

As we think of our current suspension of our regular Sunday morning services, we remain committed to our original three-fold rationale: submission to local authorities (Romans 13, with Acts 4 and 5 in the background), duty and obligation of mercy to the vulnerable in the church (Jesus looking to Deuteronomy 22 in Luke 14 and Matthew 12), and trust in God’s word that the beauty of our togetherness is not merely physical (Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Hebrews 13).

In early March, our elders suspended Sunday morning corporate worship, Sunday school, and all other church-wide events through the end of April.

Here are two updates from Thursday evening that you need to be aware of:

    • First, our elders suspended Sunday morning corporate worship, Sunday school, and all other church-wide events through Sunday, May 17. We will continue to livestream our Sunday morning Liturgy for the Home, through May 17.
    • Second, our elders believe a return to our normal Sunday morning and weekday practices at Covenant must happen in stages. We will not minister well to others if we attempt to immediately return to our practices from early March. For instance, our return must integrate various containment practices (hygiene, cleaning, greeting habits, etc.), including social-distancing. The staff has been charged to work with the deacons to develop a staged return, which will be presented at the next meeting of the elders (May 7) and shared with the church body on May 8.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this process. Remember, we have a good and faithful King who is reigning even now.
