Melvyn Bragg is a noted English broadcaster, author of both fiction and non-fiction, member of the House of Lords, university chancellor, and great lover of the KJV. He was also one of the few working-class kids studying at Oxford in the 1950s, where he received a degree in Modern History.
I first heard the voice of Melvyn Bragg in a wonderful interview by Ben Virgo of Christian Heritage London. Melvyn is not himself a professing Christian, but he is a great fan of the King James Bible and the story of the Bible in the English language. In this interview he elevates the value of William Tyndale and his caretaking of the Bible. It is a most fascinating interview. If you are a business owner or work in business administration in any way, Melvyn’s comments on the role English wool merchants played in the dissemination of the Bible should encourage your work for the kingdom today.
Apart from his opinions about the Bible, Melvyn is most well-known as a broadcaster for both ITV and BBC, namely, his BBC Radio 4 program, In Our Time. His historical snapshots are intellectually informed, but very concise and easy to follow … even for non-historians like myself.
In December 2019, Melvyn met with three historians to talk about the history of coffee. You can listen here. It is worth your time. Over a cup of coffee.
