What We Are:
The Men's Ministry exists to open the avenues for men to serve, fellowship with, and disciple one another. Activities like retreats or conferences, monthly breakfast gatherings, service/work days, book studies, Bible studies, and organic smaller fellowship gatherings all make up these opportunities. While we feel the basic framework is solid, we also feel there are many opportunities to improve and grow the ministry.
What We Are Doing:
During Midweek classes, Iron Men Time is starting 2025 by looking at Dane Ortlund's “How Does God Change Us?” (It's a concise version of his book Deeper.) Although it is a small book, it should be an easy read that will challenge us to improve our walk with Christ. After that, we will probably look for a book that will help us as we welcome a new pastor in June.
Our Men's Monthly Breakfasts will kick off on February 15 as Brian Crosby of Wayside Presbyterian Church shares with us. Next, we'll be hosting the Saturday breakfast for the Missions Awareness Week on March 1 and leading a Church Workday in April. The speakers for the May and June Men's Breakfasts are still being planned, so if you have a special request please contact the Men's Ministry Leadership Team. (We are considering bringing back the almost world-famous CPC Yard Games following the May or June Monthly Breakfast).
Over the summer we will be helping with FORGE Camp, and we need volunteers to teach the boys valuable life skills. On Wednesday evenings next fall we will likely continue watching and discussing the videos from Pete Alwinson and Forge Ministries (forgetruth.com) as we have done the last two years.
As of this writing, all our activities for fall are still in the planning stages. If you wish to participate in that planning, we would be glad to have you on our team. Reach out to Brian Hanks or any of the other members of the Men's Ministry Leadership Team. Other members of the leadership team include Scott Barber, Nathan England, Tom Erndt, John Herberich, Nick Lazor, Mike Mason, Jonathan McClelland, Jared McCurry, Doug McEachern, Phil Spotts, and Bob Vogt.
Going forward we are seeking input on how we may:
- Add more service opportunities, with a wider scope
- Add fellowship opportunities that draw a wider age group
- Broaden the audience for book studies and discussion groups
- Facilitate men starting their own support and encouragement “teams” so that the men of this congregation will become more like the men that Christ would have us to be
As in 2 Timothy 2.24-25, please pray that the Men’s Ministry may have grace to be kind to everyone, to be able to teach, and to be patient with difficult people.
Brian Hanks, Chair of Men’s Ministry
